Accelerated Secondary Education Online

Serve as a secondary grade teacher while earning your teaching license. Our accelerated program is designed to get you in the classroom faster while gaining the knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications you need for licensure.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Teach students as they transition into adulthood

Our Accelerated Teacher Education Partnership is a specialized program designed to help individuals become certified teachers faster, usually between 12 and 24 months. This secondary program is ideal for those who aspire to teach pre-adolescent to adolescent students (ages 10-21, typically grades 5-12) in various content areas such as mathematics, science, social studies, or English. Students can pair up with a school district and gain hands-on experience in a classroom, supported by experienced mentors while completing coursework. Students who enroll in this program can earn credits that can later be used towards a Master of Arts in Education.

Our program offers a flexible schedule to manage work and studies, with asynchronous and 8-week long classes. It caters to emergency-licensed teachers, career changers, recent college graduates, and working adults. To receive their teaching license, students must attend all classes, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, receive positive feedback from clinical instructors, pass the Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test, or Edgewood College Alternative FoRT Reading Portfolio, and successfully complete the teacher performance assessment at the end of the program. Our program is ideal for those who wish to become certified teachers, advance their careers, or change their careers.

3. Evidence of a baccalaureate or more advanced degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale for regular admission status. The cumulative grade point average is computed on the highest degree held at the time of application to the Edgewood College graduate program.

4. Two letters of recommendation from college or university professors, supervisors, and/or professional colleagues addressing the applicant’s potential for success in graduate school.

5. A written personal statement explaining what the applicant hopes to gain from participation in the program, what the applicant brings to the program, and how specific background experiences will aid in the success of the applicant as a student.
